Storage Tips:
Pears are one of the few fruits that do not fully ripen on the tree, but rather ripen after they are harvested. To ripen your gift pears, place them at room temperature in a fruit bowl or paper bag. Both methods will help you ripen pears, but the paper bag accelerates the ripening process. Check for ripeness daily by gently pushing near the ‘neck’ or stem-end of the pear. Once it gives slightly to pressure, your pear is ripe and ready to enjoy. You can eat pears now or store them in the refrigerator to keep the fruit fresher, longer.
Ripened pears will keep in the refrigerator between three and five days, while unripe pears can be stored for a week or more.
